Nato a Monopoli (BA) il 22 aprile 1959, è coniugato con 3 figli. Cavaliere del Lavoro, è fondatore e azionista di controllo di ANGEL, gruppo industriale italiano sinonimo di eccellenza scientifica nel mondo che progetta e sviluppa soluzioni ad alta tecnologia per i settori aviazione, spazio, trasporto, mobilità elettrica, internet delle cose, cyber security. Il gruppo impiega più di 1300 dipendenti – dei quali 1000 ingegneri. – Ha sedi in 19 paesi ed ha prodotti e servizi in uso in 65 nazioni nel mondo. Fanno parte del gruppo aziende leader di mercato nei rispettivi settori di appartenenza, tra le quali:

  • MERMEC - produce treni di misura e sistemi di segnalamento per le ferrovie e le metropolitane di tutto il mondo. Sviluppa soluzioni di micro-mobilità elettrica con veicoli connessi;
  • SITAEL - sviluppa satelliti, sistemi di propulsione elettrica, strumenti scientifici per missioni spaziali e soluzioni IoT per applicazioni industriali;
  • BLACKSHAPE - realizza aerei in fibra di carbonio ad alte prestazioni destinati al volo sportivo, l’addestramento di piloti militari e civili; il pattugliamento aereo per le attività di ricerca e monitoraggio del territorio;
  • SIT - sviluppa sistemi informativi per la governance del territorio; fornisce servizi per il rilievo aereo digitale di grandi opere infrastrutturali e per il rilievo terrestre con sistemi di mobile mapping;
  • EWINGS - specializzata nella progettazione e sviluppo di reti in radio frequenza ad alte prestazioni per la telemetria in ambito sportivo (fornitore della soluzione di telemetria utilizzata da tutti i team di Formula 1);
  • ANGELSTAR - specializzata nella progettazione e sviluppo di sistemi di bordo ETCS per gli operatori ferroviari di tutto il mondo;
  • BRIGHTCYDE - specializzata nella progettazione ed implementazione di soluzioni e servizi di cyber-security per le infrastrutture di rete;
  • EIKONTECH - specializzata nello sviluppo di soluzioni negli ambiti strategici della scienza computazionale, dell'intelligenza artificiale, dell'elettromagnetismo applicato e delle radio-comunicazioni;
  • MATIPAY - produce soluzioni di mobile-payment e dispositivi di telemetria che trasformano i distributori automatici in punti vendita intelligenti;
  • MERMECT STE (ex SIRTI Transportation) - specializzata in ambito ferroviario nello sviluppo e commercializzazione di sistemi di segnalamento (RBC - ETCS, ACC-M, CTC), e di soluzioni per la trazione elettrica e le telecomunicazioni.

Vito Pertosa che attualmente ricopre la carica di Presidente e CEO di MERMEC, è stato Consigliere di Amministrazione dell’Agenzia Spaziale Italiana (ASI); membro del Comitato Tecnico Nazionale Innovazione e Ricerca di Confindustria; Amministratore Delegato del Consorzio Sud Space (settore aerospaziale); Esperto Scientifico del Ministero Istruzione, Università e Ricerca e del Ministero dello Sviluppo Economico; Amministratore Delegato del Centro Laser S.c.ar.l. (ricerca scientifica); Vice-Presidente del Parco Scientifico e Tecnologico Tecnopolis di Valenzano; Vice-Presidente del Consorzio di Ricerca Procomp.


Ha ricoperto inoltre il ruolo di Presidente del consiglio di amministrazione della IMAGEMAP Inc. – Columbia, South Carolina, USA; Presidente del Gruppo Argenta (vending); Amministratore Unico del Consorzio 2M CLIV (automazione industriale); consigliere reggente per la Filiale di Bari della Banca d’Italia; Amministratore Unico della ITEL Italiana (produzione gruppi elettrogeni); Presidente e fondatore dell’Associazione imprenditoriale Sviluppo POLIS.


Le sue aziende hanno conseguito numerosi premi nell’ambito dell’innovazione, tra cui: il Premio Imprese X Innovazione di Confindustria nel 2006; il Premio Imprese X Innovazione di Confindustria nel 2008; il premio Imprenditore dell’Anno di Ernst & Young (categoria “Innovazione”) nel 2009 (Milano); il Photonics Prism Award 2011 (oscar mondiale per la sensoristica elettronica) dalla “International Society for Optics and Photonics – SPIE (San Francisco, USA)”; il Flieger Magazine Award 2013 per il velivolo Prime della Blackshape (Friedrichshafen, Germania); il Premio alla Carriera – Diagnostic Research 2015 della LandNet Italia; il premio Leader in Innovation Award 2017 assegnato da DITECFER (Distretto per le tecnologie ferroviarie, l’alta velocità e la sicurezza delle reti);  l’ERCI Innovation Award 2017 assegnato dallo European Research Cluster Initiative (Gdańsk, Polonia); il prestigioso premio 2b AHEAD Innovation Award per il sistema di propulsione elettrico per le applicazioni spaziali (Wolfsburg, Germania); il premio 100 Eccellenze Italiane 2017; il CES Innovation Awards Honoree 2018 a Las Vegas nella categoria Vehicle Intelligence & Self-Driving Technology; il premio NIAF Leonardo da Vinci 2018 a Washington; il premio Roma per lo sviluppo del Paese 2018; il CES Innovation Awards Honoree 2019 a Las Vegas nella categoria Smart Cities; l’Aerokurier Innovation Award 2019 per il velivolo Gabriel della Blackshape (Friedrichshafen, Germania).


A maggio del 2019 è stato insignito della Laurea Magistrale Honoris Causa in Ingegneria dell’Automazione dal Politecnico di Bari.

Vito Pertosa was born in Monopoli (BARI) on April 22nd, 1959; he is married and has two sons and one daughter. He is founder and controlling shareholder of Angel, the Italian high-tech holding who leads a group of pioneering companies, which are global leaders and technology innovators in delivering end-to-end solutions to railway, space, aviation, e-mobility, motorsport , “internet of things” and cyber-security sectors. Angel employs more than 1,300 people - 1000 being engineers - located in 19 countries worldwide. Its products and services are used in 65 countries. The Angel group includes several leading companies in the markets they serve, among which:

  • MERMEC - is the world's largest supplier of measuring trains and signalling to railways and rapid transits; develop e-mobility solutions with connected vehicles;
  • SITAEL - is the largest private Italian company in the aerospace sector that designs and develops satellites and propulsion systems;
  • BLACKSHAPE - manufactures high performance carbon fiber aircraft intended for sport flying, training of military and civil pilots; air patrolling for the research and monitoring of the territory;

  • MERMECT STE (formerly SIRTI Transportation) - specialized in the design, development and supply of signalling systems (RBC - ETCS, ACC-M, CTC), electric traction infrastructures and telecommunications solutions to world’s railways.

Vito Pertosa who currently holds the position of President and CEO of MERMEC, was a member of the board of the Italian Space Agency (ASI); member of the National Technical Committee for Innovation and Research of Confindustria; Chief Executive Officer of the Sud Space Consortium (aerospace sector); Scientific Expert of the Ministry of Education, University and Research and of the Ministry of Economic Development; Chief Executive Officer of the Laser Center S.c.ar.l. (scientific research); Vice President of the Tecnopolis Science and Technology Park in Valenzano; Vice-president of the Procomp Research Consortium.


He also served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of IMAGEMAP Inc. - Columbia, South Carolina, USA; President of the Argenta Group (vending); Sole Administrator of the 2M CLIV Consortium (industrial automation); member of the board of the Bank of Italy - Bari; Sole Administrator of ITEL Italiana (production of electric generators); President and founder of the POLIS Development Business Association.
